Two men (aged 19 and 66) charged over fire engine theft

TWO MEN HAVE been charged with a number offences involving the theft and crashing of a fire engine early Saturday morning.

The men, aged 19 and 66, are accused of stealing the fire engine from a station in Larne, on the east coast of Co Antrim.

Police received a number of reports just before 4.30am on Saturday morning of a fire engine having crashed into cars and gardens in the Glenarm Road area of the town.

Larne fire station also sustained a lot of damage as a result. Both men suspected of being involved in the incident fled the scene after the event.

Police later arrested the men, and one was taken to hospital for injuries he sustained during the incident, but has since been released.

The 19-year-old man faces charges including burglary and dangerous driving.

The 66-year-old man has been charged with five offences including burglary and aggravated vehicle taking causing damage to property.

Both men are due to appear at Coleraine Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
