Thousands will strike across Northern Ireland today

Local Government colleagues across England and Wales will join them.

THOUSANDS OF LOCAL Government workers in Northern Ireland will be on strike today.

The action is being taken along with colleagues across England and Wales in rejection of new Government pay offer.

The industrial action is being taken by a number of unions including Unite, GMB, Unison and SIPTU who say that the proposed deal hurts their pay and working conditions.

Pickets are being placed at offices across all of the six counties in Northern Ireland with rallies due to be held at the Grosvenor Hall, Belfast and at Ebrington Square in Derry later today.

“Members have had enough and have voted by over 63% for strike action,” Alison Millar of the Northern Ireland Public Service Alliance said after last week’s ballot.

Today’s strike action will also likely affect jobcentres, benefit offices, airports and courts.
