Should Ireland consider nuclear energy?
Billy Kelleher MEP has said that it is time for ‘an honest national discussion’ on the power source.
A MOTION IN favour of nuclear energy is due to go before the Fianna Fáil Ard Fheis next month.
Tánaiste Simon Harris and Minister for Public Expenditure Jack Chambers have said that nuclear energy should be considered to meet Ireland’s needs.
Similarly, Taoiseach Micheál Martin said he would be “open” to the idea, but expressed concerns about the cost of and the time required in implementing the power source.
MEP Billy Kelleher, who has previously called for an open debate on nuclear energy, said that is now time for “an honest national discussion” on the matter.
“Nuclear electricity is not a silver-bullet, but it is part of the solution,” Kelleher said.
