Lots of new jobs on the way after crunch overcrowding talks
Nursing union the INMO has called for the jobs to be filled immediately “to alleviate the continued suffering of patients in inhumane conditions”.
THE IRISH NURSES and Midwives Organisation says more than 100 additional nurses are to be hired at hospitals in the midlands and west, following talks with management regarding overcrowding.
70 nurses are to be recruited for the University Hospitals Group, including University Hospital Limerick, Ennis Hospital, Nenagh Hospital and Croom Orthopaedic Hospital
39 nurses are to be recruited for Naas General Hospital
The INMO secured the posts at two separate hearings under the auspices of the Labour Relations Commission yesterday, the union said in a statement.
Members of the INMO in the Mid West hospital group are to defer industrial action, which was due to begin tomorrow morning at 8am. The union is also advising members in Naas to their action, also planned for this week.
“We are now calling for an aggressive recruitment campaign to have the posts filled immediately in order to alleviate the continued suffering of patients in inhumane conditions and to allow our members to provide safe care,” the INMO’s Mary Fogarty and Derek Reilly said, in their joint statement.
“All barriers to the recruitment of nurses must now be lifted.”
