Another Christmas tragedy on Irish roads as woman dies in Offaly car crash

She was the driver and sole occupant of the car.

A WOMAN IN her late 40s has died in a road crash in county Offaly.

Gardaí in Banagher say they are investigating a single-car collision that occurred on the Ballycumber Road at about 4 o’clock this afternoon.

The victim had been driving about 2km east of Ferbane when she lost control of the vehicle and left the road.

She was the sole occupant of the car and no other vehicles were involved. She was pronounced dead at the scene and her body removed to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore.

The stretch of road has been closed for forensic tests. Investigators and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact the local station on 057 915 1310 or the confidential line on 1800 666 111.
