SO, PAT RABBITTE is departing the political scene. The former Labour leader, who was stripped of his ministry in last summer’s reshuffle, announced last night he wouldn’t be contesting the next General Election.
Rumours have been rife in recent months that the loquacious politician could be planning a late-career move to radio – potentially taking over from George Hook, when the rugby pundit finally hangs up his headphones.
In an interview earlier, Rabbitte dodged the question – saying he would “reflect” on his future once he left Leinster House. Hook, meanwhile, said he thought the veteran TD would be “great on radio”.
So… Would you listen to a ‘Left Hook’?
