Pedestrian in critical condition after being hit by car in Macroom

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses who may have any information regarding the incident to come forward.

A MAN IN his 30s, who was walking in Macroom in the early hours of this morning, has been hospitalised with serious injuries.

The man was hit by a car. Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the incident, which occurred on the R582 at Gurteenroe, Macroom, Co Cork, shortly after 2am.

The man was treated at the scene and then brought to Cork University Hospital. He remains in critical condition, gardaí said. 

The occupants of the car did not require immediate medical attention. 

The scene was preserved for a technical examination. The road has since reopened. 

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses who may have any information regarding the incident to come forward.

“Road users with camera footage, including dash-cam recordings, who were travelling on the Millstreet Road in the Macroom area between 1am and 2.15am on Sunday, 10th August 2025, are asked to share this material with Gardaí,” a statement said.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Macroom Garda Station at (026) 20590, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”
