Say ‘cheese!’

WHETHER YOU KNOW the difference between aperture and ISO or you’re barely familiar with the filters on Instagram, photography is a hobby that can be enjoyed by everyone. 

From 100-year-old exhibitions to a night-time photo shoot, here are four events to check out over the coming weeks that will leave you inspired and ready to start snapping.

1. Field Notes from the Border

Where: Gallery of Photography, Meeting House Square, Temple Bar, Dublin 2

As Brexit approaches, the Gallery of Photography has curated a series of “cross border exhibitions and engagement programmes to respond to the anxiety raised by the prospect of the imposition of a hard border and the unfolding events brought about by Brexit.”

2. Dublin Night Photo Walk: The Canals 

When: 3 March

Where: along Dublin’s canals

Run by creative group Good Vibrationz (with a ‘z’!), take a walk along the city’s canals with an experienced guide and photographer to complete a number of photo-related challenges, including light painting and shooting moving water.

3. From Ballots to Bullets, Ireland 1918-1919

When: until May

Where: Photographic Archive, Meeting House Square, Temple Bar, Dublin 2

A free exhibition, Ballots to Bullets features a selection of newspapers, photographs and ephemera from the turbulent years of 1918 and 1919 in Ireland.

4. OFFSET Dublin

When: 5-7 April

Where: The Point Square, Eastwall Road, Dublin 1 

With more than 2,500 attendees each year, Offset is a conference for those in design and creative industries. Over the three days of the festival, some 100 speakers from fields including graphic design, photography and illustration will take to the stage, with masterclasses, workshops and exhibitions organised too.
