Poll: Do you think a grant for first-time buyers is a good solution to the housing crisis?

Minister for Housing Simon Coveney said yesterday that first-time buyers are “locked out of the market”.

HOUSING MINISTER SIMON Coveney confirmed at the Fine Gael think-in yesterday that first-time buyers would receive a grant in the form of a tax rebate.

Coveney said yesterday that first-time buyers are the “most exposed in relation to the house purchase market” – as rent prices soar, it’s very difficult for young people to save up for a deposit for their first home.

Others say that a grant would be dealing with the symptom, not the problem, and the cost of buying and renting properties needs to be reduced to solve the housing crisis.

So, we’re asking, Do you think a grant for first-time buyers is a good solution to the housing problem?
