Poll: Should the Sports Council provide funding for MMA in Ireland?

Conor McGregor has inspired a new generation of fighters – is it time the sport was recognised?

THERE WAS HUGE global interest yet again in Conor McGregor’s latest UFC fight at the weekend.

McGregor lost to Nate Diaz on Saturday night in the first loss of his UFC career. Interest in the Irish fighter is not likely to drop off, however, and his fame has inspired young people all across the country to become involved in mixed martial arts (MMA).

Last month, Minister for Sport Paschal Donohoe said it should be recognised as a sport in Ireland but that government funding is a long way off.

We want to know what you think: Should the Irish Sports Council provide funding for MMA?
