IT’S SUNDAY, 1 MARCH – and that means the new rental rules have kicked in.
Any new tenancies will now last for a minimum of six years, and landlords can reset the rent of their properties to “market rent” – but only for the new tenancies. Any tenancy agreements predating today will not be affected unless the tenant leaves the dwelling.
It’s a major overhaul of the previous rental rules, and it has attracted criticism for various reasons, from tenants and landlords alike.
