Poll: Do you think people should be fined for not wearing a seatbelt?

An appeal was launched today urging road users to wear seatbelts over the Easter weekend.

THE GARDAÍ AND the Road Safety Authority issued an appeal today urging car users to wear seatbelts over the Easter weekend.

The appeal comes with a warning that at least one person has been killed on every Easter weekend since 2009, with 17 killed overall in that time.

Research suggests that two out of every three people will survive a crash if they are wearing a seatbelt, and Moyagh Murdock, Chief Executive of the RSA, said that the decision “isn’t about personal choice”.

Anyone caught not wearing a seatbelt in a car faces a fixed charge fine of €60, which can increase if not paid in time.

Today we’re asking: Do you think people should be fined for not wearing a seatbelt?

Poll Results:

Yes (15790)
No (1841)
Don't know (202)
