AS IF HE weren’t already thought of as a bit of a legend, Pope Francis gave two lucky kids a lift around St Peter’s Square in the PopeMobile today, and by all accounts had the craic with them.
The Pope was driving through the Square in his white, open-air car during his general audience when he hopped off to chat to a group of schoolchildren. The kids gave him a t-shirt from their school in Perugia in central Italy.
The Pope asked – half jokingly – if any of them wanted to take a spin through the square and, predictably, the kids got VERY excited.
As they jostled to get picked, the Pope picked out 11-year-olds Livio Bastianelli and Davide Maria Bianchi, who were lifted over the barrier by the Pope’s bodyguards.

The two kids hopped on board the car and drove the short distance with the Pope.
Livio told The Associated Press: “I was really excited. That never happens!”.
Any chance we could get a lift to the pub? No?
