Around 3,000 homes without power after overnight storms

ESB networks says it’s hoped the affected homes and businesses will be reconnected by lunchtime.

UP TO THREE thousand electricity customers are still without power this morning as a result of last night’s bad weather.

Homes and businesses in and around Arklow, and customers in parts of Cork county – Fermoy and Bandon in particular – are worst affected.

A spokesperson for ESB Networks said crews were working to reconnect those affected, and that it was hoped the work would be completed by midday or 1pm.

He said there were also some other small clusters of homes around the country without power, but “nothing out of the ordinary” in terms of normal weekday problems.

There were no reports of any outages in Kilkenny City, ESB Networks said. Earlier this morning, a reader from the area sent the below video to which appears to show a power cut in the city at the height of last night’s thunder storms…
