Number of properties for sale continues to fall

The number of properties for sale in Ireland has hit a nine-year low, according to a new report from property website Daft.ie. There are less than 24,000 properties for sale right now, the lowest figure since February 2007. The biggest falls in availability are in Munster, Connacht and Ulster.

Dolores McNamara bidding big on Limerick retail park

Euromillions winner Dolores McNamara has bid more than €44 million to buy a massive retail park in her native Limerick. McNamara, who won €115 million in 2005, will be competing with insurance firm Irish Life, which has also bid for the Childers Road Retail Park.

• Facebook’s new data centre in Meath will be powered entirely by wind power. The 621,000 sq ft site will have a floorspace equivalent to approximately eight Aviva Stadium pitches.
• A possible 50-apartment development in Rathmichael, Dublin has been rejected by planners. David Hall of Digicel Jamaica had applied to demolish a house set on almost 3 acres and replace it with 50 apartments but was denied, according to a report in the Irish Times.
• Talks are ongoing between Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil to consider creating a new ‘household package’ which would combine property taxes and water charges if a new minority government is elected, according to a report in the Irish Independent.
