Local authority house builds hit a new low

The Department of the Environment has released figures that show just 75 social housing units were built in the whole of 2015, –  the lowest since official records began in 1970.

Average rents have surpassed €1,000 per month

Rents across Ireland have risen as available rental properties have reached an all-time low, according to the latest Daft report released this week. This is the first time since 2008 that rents have surpassed an average of €1,000 per month.

  • Estate agent Savills has released a report saying that Cork and Wicklow are the most popular areas for properties bought outside of Dublin, as they are close to amenities such as airports and schools.
  • Cairn Homes is expecting to take control of most of the properties whose debt they purchased from Ulster Bank for €378 million, according to a report in the Irish Times.
