Households which waste water ‘to face prosecution’ under proposed new plans

Those who “wilfully waste” water will face prosecution under proposed new plans currently under consideration by the Oireachtas. The draft working report which looks to address Ireland’s obligations under the Water Framework Directive (WFD) has proposed that “those who wilfully abuse water or permit wastage can be prosecuted”.

A major vacant-site development has stalled as it may spoil views from Dublin Castle

Environmental charity An Taisce has delayed the construction of a mixed-use development on a vacant lot in Dublin’s city centre over concerns that it will spoil the view from Dublin Castle. Galway-headquartered Luxor Investments received planning permission in December last year to build a six-storey development on Ship Street Great and Chancery Lane in inner-city Dublin.

• Dublin could get new eight-storey hotel as vacant “scourge” set to be demolished. Planning permission is being sought for an eight-storey 249-room hotel in Dublin city. The old motor tax building at River House on Chancery Street in the capital has been empty for over a decade and planning has been sought to demolish it and build a new hotel.
• New student rooms in Dublin will cost a minimum of €249 a week. Purpose-built student accommodation on Mill Street – at the southern end of The Liberties in the south inner city – is due to be completed by September, in time for the 2017/18 academic year.
• The Bridge to Poolbeg among projects to add 23,000 new homes in next four years. A total of 34 strategic infrastructure projects across 15 local authorities have been given the green light by Government, it was announced today. The projects will cost a total of €226 million with the Government hoping they will result in 23,000 additional homes being delivered by 2021.
