National Children’s Hospital

This week planning permission was submitted to An Bord Pleanala for building the new National Children’s Hospital on the St James’s Hospital campus site.

If approval is given for the building then the facility could be up and running within five years. Constructing the hospital has been priced at €650 million.

Plans for the hospital show that it will be seven storeys at its highest point, with 384 in-patient beds and a therapeutic roof garden for its child patients.

The Minister for Health Leo Varadkar has said that he is expecting objections to be made about the building, but that, “there is also a huge amount of support behind it”.
