The Red Line Luas has fully reopened this morning — here’s the Christmas timetable

The line is back in service this morning after months of repairs on George’s Dock Bridge following a fire in August.

THE FULL RED Line Luas service resumed this morning, more than three months after a major fire forced the closure of the Connolly-Point section of the line.

The stretch had been shut since 19 August, when a blaze near the IFSC damaged George’s Dock bridge after coming into contact with a gas line.

Around 20,000 passenger journeys are normally made on the affected section every day.

Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) said it carried out a detailed assessment of the bridge and surrounding light rail infrastructure before undertaking an “intensive programme” of reconstruction and reinstatement works, including new utility connections, track replacement and repairs to the Overhead Contact System.

The Commission for Railway Regulation approved the return of passenger services this week.

TII thanked passengers for their “patience and understanding”, saying the cooperation of the public “allowed us to prioritise safety and reinstate Luas services just in time for the busy Christmas season”.

Christmas and Night Luas services

Both the Red and Green lines will run extended late-night services on selected dates in December, as well as on New Year’s Eve.

Night Luas trams will operate across both lines between roughly 00:00 and 03:00, depending on route and direction.

On Christmas Eve, services will finish at 8pm, and there will be no trams on Christmas Day.

St Stephen’s Day will run with Sunday-style hours, and regular late operating times will continue throughout the holiday period.

The full Christmas and Night Luas schedule is available here.
