Revenue seize one million cigarettes worth €387k

The seizure had a potential loss to the exchequer of €341,000.

OFFICERS FROM REVENUE’S Customs Service seized one million illegally imported cigarettes at a commercial unit in North County Dublin today.

The seizure had an estimated retail value of €387,500 and a potential loss to the exchequer of €341,000.

The ’Brendal’ brand of cigarettes, manufactured in the Ukraine, arrived via Poland into Dublin Port last week and officers believe that in an attempt to avoid detection by Revenue’s tobacco dogs, the 5,000 cigarette cartons were wrapped in black sacks containing spice.

No arrests have been made and customs officers are continuing with their investigations.
