Kobe the detector dog with the cigarettes

Revenue seizes 13 million cigarettes at Dublin Port

The seizure was assisted by Revenue’s mobile X-ray scanner and one of its detector dogs, Kobe.

REVENUE SEIZED 13 million cigarettes at Dublin Port last week.

The seizure, which took place on Friday, was made following routine risk profiling.

It was assisted by Revenue’s mobile X-ray scanner and one of its detector dogs, Kobe.

The contraband was uncovered during an examination of a container that had arrived via Rotterdam, which had been made to look like a furniture shipment.

The smuggled cigarettes, branded ‘Excellence’, have an estimated value of €12.3 million and represent a potential loss to the Exchequer of €9.6 million.

Investigations are ongoing, Revenue said.

This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing work targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity.
