A 55-year-old man has died in a road accident in Galway

The accident happened at Cloonmore, near Tuam, at 2.20 am this morning.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING a fatal car accident on the N17 at Cloonmore, Tuam, Co Galway in the early hours of this morning.

The incident happened at approximately 2.20 am.

A 55-year-old man was killed when the car he was driving was struck by another vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has been taken to University College Hospital Galway where a post mortem is to take place.

The man was carrying one passenger in his car, a 20-year-old man, while the other vehicle’s sole occupant was its driver, a 22-year-old man.

Both men were also taken to University College Hospital Galway with non life threatening injuries. No other injuries have been reported.

The N17 is currently closed at Cloonmore Bridge, Tuam to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who travelled the N17 at Cloonmore Bridge between 2am and 2.30am early this morning to contact them at Tuam Garda Station on 093 70840, The Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
