BOND ACTOR SIR Roger Moore has died at the age of 89.
His family said in a statement today that he passed away following a short battle with cancer.
“It is with a heavy heart that we must announce that our loving father, Sir Roger Moore, has passed away today in Switzerland after a short but brave battle with cancer. The love with which he was surrounded in his final days was so great it cannot be quantified in words alone.
“We know our own love and admiration will be magnified many times over, across the world, by people who knew him for his films, his television shows and his passionate work for UNICEF which he considered to be his greatest achievement.”
He is survived by his wife Kristina and children Deborah, Geoffrey and Christian.
The British actor played James Bond in seven films between 1973 and 1985, and Simon Templar in the 1960s series The Saint.
Born in London, he studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and spend some time as a model in the 1950s.
He married his fourth wife Kristina ‘Kiki’ Tholstrup, a Danish socialite, in 2002.
