This monitor wants to wirelessly charge your phone while you work

The charger is built into the base of the SE370, a 1080p computer monitor from Samsung.

WHEN MONITORS ARE announced, they usually focus on how many pixels they can squeeze into the screen and image quality, but Samsung has announced one that comes with a useful feature.

The SE370 is a pretty standard 1080p monitor for your computer and is available in two sizes, 23.6-inch and 27-inch respectively.

The big draw is it supports all mobile devices that use the Qi wireless charging standard, which is what Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and a number of modern smartphones include.

It’s built into the base of the monitor so all you need to do is place your phone on it and charging begins automatically. A red LED light switches on to tell you it’s charging and changes green when it’s finished.

If you spend your day at a desk, then having such a station can be handy as a monitor is always plugged in and stays in the one place. Also, the positioning means you can still see the phone in case someone tries to contact you.

There are some other small features included like an “eye-saver mode” which reduces the effects of blue light on viewers eyes and associated eye strain, and AMD FreeSync technology which provides a smoother refresh rate for gaming (if you use an AMD graphics card).

No details about its release date or cost was provided, but it will likely be released by the end of the year.
