TWO MEN HAVE been arrested in connection with the fatal assault of Scarlett Faulkner in Co Tipperary.

Scarlett, aged 29, was assaulted on the R494 at Birdhill on 21 March.

The Limerick woman was brought to hospital for treatment for her injuries, but her life support was turned off three weeks later.

The two men arrested this morning are aged in their late 40s and late teens respectively.

They are being detained at garda stations in Tipperary under the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007.

A family liaison officer has been assigned to support the family of the deceased.

Investigations are ongoing, a garda spokesperson said.

Two others are before the courts charged in connection with the alleged attack on Ms Faulkner.

They include a 16-year-old girl who is accused of assault causing serious harm to Ms Faulkner, by allegedly striking her on her head at least eleven times with an iron bar; and a 40-year-old woman who is charged with endangerment and violent disorder.
