POLICE IN NORTHERN Ireland are appealing for information over what they describe as the “attempted murder” of police officers following a gun attack in north Belfast this day last week.

A number of shots were fired at three police vehicles as they travelled along the Crumlin Road just after 7pm. No-one was injured. Parishioners were attending mass at Holy Cross Road Church at the time.

Detectives returned to the area this evening to distribute leaflets and issue an appeal to locals who may have information.

Officers are particularly interested in the movements of a car believed to have been used by the gunmen. They’re appealing to anyone who noticed the movements of a silver Volkswagen Passat, registration number ICZ 9780, between 5pm and 7pm on Thursday evening in the Ardoyne area, to get in contact.

Anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the Butler Walk, Butler Place, Brompton Park or Herbert Street area around the time is also being asked to contact detectives at Antrim Road Police Station on 0845 600 8000.
