ABOUT 1,500 COMPETITORS are ready to take each other on as Special Olympics Ireland get underway tomorrow morning.
Limerick’s streets were lined this evening to greet the athletes and the torch bearers before they entered the People’s Park for the Opening Ceremony.
Over 7,000 people attended the ceremony, during which they were entertained by singer Paddy Casey and MC Will Leahy. Minister Brendan Howlin also delivered a speech about the importance of the games.
The 1,500 men, women and children from Ireland will take part in 13 sports, including floorball and bocce, across venues in Limerick over the next three days.
Here are some of the images captured by photographer Seán Curtin tonight.
