New public toilets in North Dublin park vandalised after one week

The three eco-toilets were built as a result of a two-year campaign by locals and politicians.

NEW PUBLIC TOILETS in St Anne’s Park Raheny were vandalised over the weekend after being installed last week.

The three eco-toilets were built as a result of a two-year campaign by locals and politicians to develop facilities at the park.

The park in North Dublin regularly hosts markets, matches, park runs and concerts.

Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland today, Labour Councillor for Dublin Bay North, Ally Field, said the community is devastated after the “appalling” vandalism.

“It was quite bad. We’re all devastated in the community,” she said, adding that the lack of facilities in the park often means sports teams have no access to toilets when they come to play.

“It seems the other night, there seems to be a bit of a rampage in the area. Bus shelters destroyed, the local community fireworks cracked all the glass. It’s just devastating to the community, and just no respect.”

Independent TD for Dublin Bay North Barry Heneghan shared a video of the toilets – which appear to have been set alight.

“We’re deeply disappointed and angered by the vandalism of the new toilets in St. Anne’s Park facilities our community fought hard for and our kids needed,” he said in a post on X.

He said no CCTV was recording the incident.
