A SURVEY CONDUCTED in the UK by Simply Business found that 35% of people admitted to taking home pint glasses from the pub in the past year.
That equates to approximately 38 million stolen glasses – costing pub owners over £130m (€150m) to replace.
Theft of pint glasses is nothing new. One London pub even posted a video poking fun at customers stealing its Beavertown glasses, which one woman referred to as “the most stolen pint glass in the UK”.
It happens in Ireland too, as CorkBeo previously reported that a French woman returned a glass she had taken from the Franciscan Well pub in Cork five years earlier.
“Hello, I stole this glass a few years ago from your bar and it is important to me and I want to repent of this,” she wrote in a note attached to the returned glass (she even slipped in €10).
It got us wondering how often pint glass swiping happens in Ireland.
