Flights, ferries, and schools - here's the cancellations and closures from Storm Bram we know so far

Storm Bram has kicked off nationwide.

LAST UPDATE | 16 mins ago

STORM BRAM IS sweeping across the country, bringing strong winds and the possibility of coastal flooding.

The Orange weather warnings began to kick in at 7am this morning, and a Status Yellow warning for rain for seven counties that came into effect yesterday evening will soon lapse at 9am.

As we learn more about the storm and its impacts, flights have been cancelled and events have been called off.

You can follow all the latest developments in our liveblog here, but here’s a round-up of what Storm Bram has got in the way of so far.

Flights

Dublin Airport has confirmed that 42 flights – 21 inbound and 21 outbound – have been cancelled so far, with more expected to be announced later on.

Passengers due to fly today have been urged to check directly with their airline for the latest updates. The majority of outbound flights cancelled so far were destined for the UK.

Ferry services are also adversely affected. Stena Line has confirmed a number of its sailings have been delayed or cancelled due to marine warnings, while many of the Irish Ferries scheduled sailings today, destined for France and the UK, have been cancelled or had departure times changed.

Domestic transport

A number of roads in Cork City have been closed or limited to one lane this morning as a result of flooding.

The council said Wandesford Quay is closed, Lavitt’s Quay is down to one lane, and South Terrace is down to one lane. Crews are on site, the council added, and appealed to road users to travel with caution.

Bus transfers are being arranged to operate between Kilkenny and Waterford, Iarnród Éireann said, adding that ongoing flood defence works will resume in the new year to prevent this issue from reoccuring.

Education

Mayo College of Further Education and Training will be closed today as a result of the storm, it announced in a post to X.

A large number of primary schools have announced their closures for today.

Others

Among other events and fixtures cancelled or disrupted are the Macroom Christmas Market, and horse racing at Punchestown.

The Macroom Christmas Market, which is run by Cork County Council, has been cancelled for the day, with the council apologising for any inconvenience.

Punchestown Racecourse’s Clerk Brendan Sheridan said that although the track “remains fit for racing”, it has been decided that it will cancel its fixture today and look for an alternative date.

In Kerry, all five civic amenity sites and recycling centres operated by the county council will be closed today.
