These are the counties with the highest - and lowest - home energy ratings

Leitrim has the lowest proportion of A-ratings.

THE LOWEST PERCENTAGE of A-rated homes in the country is found in Leitrim, where only 5% of dwellings have the highest level of energy rating.

New figures from the Central Statistics Office show the counties with the highest and lowest number of A-rated homes, as well as the performance of new dwellings built in recent years.

The highest proportions of A-ratings across all dwellings are in Kildare (27%) and Meath (25%), while the lowest was in Leitrim at just 5%.

The highest proportion of G-ratings – the lowest level – was found in Roscommon, where 12% of dwellings have a G energy rating, followed closely by Leitrim at 11% and Tipperary at 10%.

The lowest proportion of G-ratings was in Co Dublin at just 2%, though the figure was higher for homes in Dublin 1 through Dublin 24 at 5%. 

Newer dwellings are being built with better energy efficiency, the CSO figures show. A ratings were awarded to 99% of audited dwellings built between 2020 and 2024.

In comparison, 95% of dwellings built between 2015-2019 receiving an A rating and only 15% of dwellings from all periods.

Electricity is the main space heating fuel for 92% of audited dwellings that were constructed between 2020 and 2024, compared with 24% of all dwellings.
