FANS OF THE Walking Dead can stop holding their breath as the eleventh and final season of the show lands on Disney+ today.

Premiering exclusively on Star on Disney+, 24 episodes of the post-apocalyptic horror series will be released over the next year as the hit show comes to a close.

Previously on The Walking Dead, the survivors confronted past demons and combated new threats, with friendships and relationships suffering from the mounting collateral damage that is the apocalypse.

Alexandria is severely compromised, left a former shell of the home it once was from the carnage and devastation left behind by the Whisperers. Now all who live in Alexandria struggle to refortify it and feed its increasing number of residents, which include the survivors from the fall of the Kingdom and the burning of Hilltop; along with Maggie and her new group, the Wardens.

This season will also see the arrival of the Commonwealth community, which those who are familiar with the comic book series will recognise, leaving Alexandria with more people than it can manage to feed and protect.

Speaking to TVLine, Norman Reedus, who stars as Daryl Dixon, says this season will bring a lot of changes.

“Every season feels like a different show in a certain sense, but this season, it’s a whole new backdrop, a whole new colour palette, a whole new attitude,” he says.

“It’s sort of in Technicolor all of a sudden and it takes some getting used to, which you can see in our group [of survivors] — we’re having trouble getting used to it, too.

“It’s like Alice fell down the rabbit hole, and she doesn’t know where she’s at. We just stepped into a Salvador Dalí painting, so we’re like, ‘whaaat?’”

If you’re already fearful of the series – which first premiered in 2010 – coming to an end, you’ll be happy to know that a spinoff starring Reedus and Melissa McBride, who plays Carol Peletier, has already been announced for 2023.

For now, though, it’s time witness the beginning of the end with the final season of The Walking Dead. Just be sure to avoid the walkers.

Don’t miss the beginning of the end of The Walking Dead. The final season is now streaming exclusively on Star on Disney+. 18+ subscription required.
