THE WEEKEND IS kicking off – but what should you watch?
We’ve taken a look through what’s on offer and picked out series and movies that you can check out over the next three days on streaming and the telly.
Come to Your Census
Time for the second and final part of this new series, which celebrates the 1926 Census. Tonight, novelist and UL Professor of Creative Writing Joseph O’Connor, actor Eileen Walsh, and RTÉ Radio 1 radio presenter Louise Duffy comb through the archives to find out more about their family backgrounds.
Watch on Sunday (10 May) at 6.30pm on RTÉ One.
Spinal Tap II: The End Continues
The guys from Spinal Tap returned in this sequel last year, and it’s now on streaming. The film is centred around a reunion of the band, with an accompanying documentary directed by Marty DiBergi (a pseudonym of the sadly departed Rob Reiner) capturing the action as they prepare for one final concert. Features cameos from the likes of Elton John and Paul McCartney.
Streaming on Sky Cinema Premiere and NOW.
Citadel
This spy thriller is back for a second season, featuring Mason Kane (Richard Madden), Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra Jonas), and Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci) as elite operatives of a legendary agency destroyed by Manticore, a ruthless network backed by the world’s most powerful families. In this season, a new global threat emerges and the three must recruit a team of skilled new operatives.
Streaming on Prime now.
The Chestnut Man
In this Danish series, a 41-year-old woman is reported missing and after looking at her digital footprint, police realise she has been stalked for months. An unidentified person has been surveilling her while sending her images, videos and also a seemingly innocent nursery rhyme-style song. Is the case connected to the unsolved murder of a 17-year-old high school student? Detectives investigate.
Streaming on Netflix.
The Shelter: Animal SOS
Tissues at the ready as RTÉ airs this documentary, which was recorded over a year at the animal rescue charity NSPCA in Dublin. In this first episode, inspector Fiona Conlon from Carlow brings in three dogs in poor condition.
Tonight (Friday) at 8pm on RTÉ One.
