United Airlines is clamping down on its headphone policy – should other airlines follow suit?

According to the airline, passengers who play audio without headphones could be banned from flying.

UNITED AIRLINES HAS made amendments to its passenger policy, particularly for those using personal devices onboard its services.

The company’s updated ‘contract of carriage’ states that passengers who “fail to use headphones while listening to audio or video content” may be refused transport. It added that those in breach of the rules could be permanently banned from flying with the airline.

The move comes as phones and tablets have become an increasingly popular means of in-flight entertainment, replacing airline-provided screens (which usually require headphones to function).

While other airlines encourage passengers to wear headphones, United is the first to explicitly state that it may enforce bans on those who do not follow the rules.

The policy is likely to be welcomed by many flyers, but we want to know your thoughts.

So tell us: Should more airlines introduce stricter headphone policies?
