FOUR DOOR SALOONS are loved in Ireland. Last year saloons were the second most popular style of car with 30,591 registered. That was 24.51% of the total new car registrations, including imports.
Even more have been registered this year, and we still have two months of the year left to go.
So, with that in mind we’ve rounded up five diesel-powered four-door saloons, from the top-end dream car to the distinctly affordable.
Under €60k
2016 BMW 530d M Sport, €59,950
This 5 Series packs a 3.0-litre, twin-turbocharged six-cylinder diesel engine. The tuneful six-pot is smooth and has plenty of grunt and the eight-speed automatic gearbox is super slick. This car is an extremely comfortable motorway cruiser and quite efficient too with a claimed 4.57 litres/100km (51.4mpg).

2014 Audi A6 S Line Black Edition, €34,995
The Black Edition is a limited edition of the Audi A6 executive saloon and delivers handsome looks, a great drive (if a bit firm) and of course, excellent build quality. This car is extremely well specced and rolls on gorgeous 20-inch matt-grey rotor alloys.

2013 Jaguar XF, €27,900
The Jaguar XF is a charming car to drive, with a superb chassis and engaging steering. It is a car with great capabilities. This particular model comes with the powerful 200hp 2.2-litre engine and is mated to an effortless eight-speed automatic transmission.

2013 Volkswagen Passat, €16,995
The Volkswagen Passat is one of the best selling cars in Ireland and for good reason too, it is comfortable, refined, economical and very spacious with ample head and leg room for five adults. This Highline model is well specced, has a full leather interior and is in great condition.
