We asked a Tractor Football referee to explain Tractor Football

It’s all a bit mad.

LIKE TRACTORS? LIKE football?

Well, some industrious folk at the National Ploughing Championships managed to combine the two, to create a familiar-looking, fast-paced (and slightly bonkers) new sport.

Tractor Football has been the hit of ‘the Ploughing’ since yesterday morning. The event – organised to raise awareness of heart failure – pits three drivers from Offaly against three from Laois.

They’ve been battling it out aboard brand new WR Shaw New Holland tractors, trying to chase an enormous seven foot ball through the posts. It’s all for a good cause too – helping raise awareness of heart disease, among farming families.
