Our top 5 watches of the weekend

Looking for something to check out on the small screen this weekend? We’ve got you covered.

THE WEEKEND IS kicking off – but what should you watch?

We’ve taken a look through what’s on offer and picked out series and movies that you can check out over the next three days on streaming and the telly.

Tucci in Italy 2

TucciS2-9x16-dated National Geographic / Disney National Geographic / Disney / Disney

This surely is the most enviable job on telly – travelling through Italy sampling delicious food and meeting friendly Nonnas. It’s all in a day’s work for actor and Italian-American Stanley Tucci, who is back for a second season of this show. This time we’re promised “a deeper, more personal journey” as Tucci visits five new regions — Naples and Campania, Sicily, Le Marche, Sardinia, and Veneto— to “trace the link between Italy’s historical landscape and its culinary traditions”. Talk about having your bolognese and eating it – and we’re happy to go along for the ride.

Cork’s biggest and most lovable eejits are finishing up the fifth season of Young Offenders this weekend. As they’re fed up with being broke, Conor and Jock decide that they need to move abroad. But this costs money, so they end up falling in with a Billy Murphy scheme to undertake a heist on a whiskey distillery. Surely it’ll go well?

Saturday at 9.25pm on RTÉ One.

Wuthering Heights

Rotten Tomatoes Trailers / YouTube

If you missed this much-talked-about adaptation of the classic Emily Brontë novel when it hit the cinemas, fear not: it’s streaming now. Director Emerald Fennell puts her own distinctive spin on the tale of tormented love between Cathy (Margot Robbie) and Heathcliff (Jacob Elordi). Is it faithful to the original novel? Absolutely not, but perhaps that’s the fun of it.

Streaming on HBO Max.

Marty: Life is Short

Aw, Martin Short – surely one of the most delightful Canadian comedians to grace a screen or stage. Marty: Life is Short is a documentary from director Lawrence Kasdan (a friend of Short’s), and includes never-before-seen archive footage alongside exclusive interviews.

Streaming on Netflix.

Dutton Ranch

‘Is there no end to the Yellowstone spinoffs?!’ I hear you cry. The answer is no: there is not. This latest one stars the original series’ Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser as Beth and Rip. It’s been one year since we last saw them on Yellowstone, and now they have moved to Texas. But will past dramas surface, causing trouble for the couple? You can bet your bottom dollar on that one.
