Byrne also revealed what books Donohue gifted her Alamy Stock Photo

When did you last read a book?

Claire Byrne has said she is yet to read the books that Paschal Donohue gave to her last year.

PRESENTER CLAIRE BYRNE has admitted she hasn’t yet read the books gifted to her by former finance minister Paschal Donohoe following their final Budget phone-in last October.

Speaking to The Journal about her recent move from RTÉ to Newstalk, Byrne said the exchange prompted discussion about the appropriateness of the gift – which she described as Donohoe “marking the end of my tenure on that programme”.

And in case you were wondering, the books in question were both related to economics – with one focusing on what Byrne described as “Taylor Swift-driven economics”.

“I’ll have to have my pointy head on when I’m reading those books, but I haven’t read them yet,” she said, adding that the “kerfuffle” over the gifts may have been a factor in this.

Sure, there’s no harm in keeping your next read on standby.
