Appeal for witnesses, CCTV footage after serious sexual assault

A woman with special needs was sexually assaulted after being accosted and brought to a house in Dublin city yesterday afternoon.

GARDAÍ ARE APPEALING for anyone with CCTV cameras in their vehicle or property in the South Circular Road, South Richmond St and Portobello area to send them the footage as they try to find out who sexually assaulted a woman with special needs.

Gardaí at Kevin Street are appealing for witnesses following a serious sexual assault incident which occurred on Wednesday between 4pm and 5pm.

They said this evening that reports that a male offender has been identified are not true.

They said that a female in her mid-20s was walking along the South Circular Road towards Harrington Street between 4pm and 4.15pm when she was accosted by a dark skinned male.

They walked in the direction of the Victoria Street / Lennox Street area and it is believed that they both entered a dwelling somewhere in the general area of the South Circular Road/ South Richmond Street / Portobello area. The assault took place in this building.

The male was described by the witness as being dark skinned, black hair and of a medium height.

The woman is described as 4’ 10” with shoulder length brown hair and wearing a black cardigan, beige top, black knee-length leggings and white runners.

Investigating officers are appealing for anyone who may have seen this young woman in the company of this man in the areas mentioned or who may have information in relation to this incident to contact Kevin Street Garda Station 01 666 9400, the Garda Confidential Line 1 800 666 111, or any garda station.

Gardaí have also requested any person who may have private CCTV cameras in their vehicles (such as taxis, vans, or private buses), or on their property, to make contact with the incident room.
