Cian O’Brien was local to Tower, near Blarney in Co Cork.

A YOUNG CORK man who died while on a ski trip in France has been named locally as 20-year-old Cian O’Brien.

Cian is understood to have travelled to France with friends to take part in the trip.

The young man was local to Tower, near Blarney in Co Cork.

Local councillor Damian Boylan told The Journal that Cian’s death is “desperately tragic” and a “shock to the system” for the community.

He extended his condolences to Cian’s family and said he “can’t imagine what the family is going through”.

“There’s young people in Tower and Blarney who have lost a friend,” Boylan said.

It’s understood that work is underway to organise Cian’s repatriation to Ireland.

The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it is aware of the incident and is providing consular assistance.
