THE WHOLE COUNTRY was hit by torrential rain yesterday, and issues with the drainage system caused localised flooding in parts of Dublin’s north inner city.
A spokesperson for Dublin City Council told TheJournal.ie that there was localised flooding in the area of Sheriff Street and Castleforbes Road for a period of time yesterday.
Gardaí received reports of surface water in areas of the city including the Castleforbes road and Sheriff Street, as well as Swords Road in Santry and Clifford’s Lane in Swords.

The flooding on Castleforbes road in particular, appeared to persist for several hours, threatening local businesses in the area.
The Dublin City Council spokesperson said that there is “a new drainage scheme currently under construction which will minimise the risk of flooding in this area in the future”.
Yesterday, Dart services between Bray and Dun Laoghaire were delayed due to flooding.
Delays were widespread across major roads, and traffic was heavy in and out of Slane due to the Guns N’ Roses concert.
