Calls for more garda patrols as woman attacked in south Dublin estate

The woman managed to strike her attacker a number of times before he fled.

A WOMAN HAS been attacked in a housing estate in south Dublin this evening.

Gardaí are investigating after the woman, who is in her 40s, was the victim of an assault in the Bayview estate in Killiney at around 5.45pm.

Officers said they have yet to arrest anyone in relation to the incident. The woman managed to fight back against the man and struck him a number of times. She then contacted gardaí where she reported the crime. She suffered minor injuries.

The attack comes just two weeks after a female American tourist was assaulted by a man on the Killiney Road, three kilometres from where this evening’s assault occurred.

Officers confirmed to TheJournal.ie that they are investigating the incident. Anyone with any information is being urged to contact their local garda station or call the confidential line on 1800 666 111.

An Cathaoirleach of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Cormac Devlin said he was appalled that “another random attack has taken place in the Killiney area in a matter of weeks”.

He added: “In light of it, I will be requesting local gardaí to initiate more garda patrols in the area and on mountain bikes, if necessary plus I’m requesting the council’s Public Lighting Section to carry out a review of all lighting within the Bayview estate to ensure the public’s safety.”
