Cannabis factory uncovered in Donegal

Two men were arrested at the scene and are being detained at Buncrana Garda Station.

GARDAÍ IN DONEGAL have uncovered a cannabis cultivation factory near Malin in the north of the county.

The discovery was made during a planned search of a commercial unit at around 10am this morning.

Gardaí said two men were arrested at the scene and are being detained at Buncrana Garda Station.

RTE reported that the plants found in the factory were at every stage of development and that a large quantity of cannabis had already been harvested and was ready for market.

An examination of the scene is on-going to determine the value of the cannabis plants.

  I don’t really have an opinion one way or the other about the legalisation of cannabis (mainly because I’m not well enough informed about either sides of the arguments), but I really don’t think we should look at this story and say “look!! Demand!! Let’s legalise!!”. There are drug seizures of heroin and cocaine but it doesn’t mean they should be legalised too. If its going to be legalised let it be because there a general medical and social consensus to do so, not because “there’s demand”.

  The fact is the criminal gangs who prosper from the inflated price of popular illicit drugs don’t want legalization. The danger of of no regulation and quality control gets passed onto the consumer and medical patient. The underage are not ID checked. Not only is there no form of taxation from the industry’s illegal status it stifles any economic stimulus by keeping it’s consumers hiding at home.
  
  Complimentary business’s would prosper from a regulated system of cannabis, from more rented establishments to more footfall, service trades like cafe’s and restaurants, music and art, growers and farmers, complimentary products and medical products, tourism, seed banks etc.
  
  The small home grower could achieve economic freedom and get off social welfare while doing a job people appreciate.
  
  A former government adviser on drugs has told MPs that alcohol consumption would fall by as much as 25% if Dutch-style cannabis “coffee shops” were introduced in Britain.

Smoking dope might not be great for your health, smoking illegal dope is far worse for your health and is far more damaging to society. People will smoke dope because they like it, why do they have to be poisoned by contaminants and support criminals while they do. Everybody I know personally who smokes is a decent reasonable person, they would all prefer to by their dope from legitimate sources. If it were legalised drug-trade associated crime would all but vanish within a matter of months.

How long more do we have to wait until cannabis is fully legalised? It makes perfect sense for medical, financial and social reasons. We know nobody has ever died from cannabis, And that it is now a proven fact that it treats a whole range of diseases, which is why our government are changing the law to allow doctors to prescribe cannabis based products in Ireland.
Our government by fully legalising can, 1: provide medical help for a multiple amount of diseases such as M/S and Cancer, 2: kill off at least 1/3 of the drug trade into this country, 3: provide a revenue stream that can be put straight back into the economy (and I’m not talking small change, we could argue this figure to be in the millions per annum, possibly billions if you include taxation, tourism, job creation etc…)
The government are just afraid to back it as they fear they will lose their seat come next election day.
Looking at the facts and taking note that Portugal have done all of the above by also legalising the likes of heroin and cocaine, why wouldn’t this country not take the risk?????? Funds could be even used to payoff those unknown bond holders rather than taxing the sh*t out of all of us!!!!!!!

Big pharma who have our government in their pockets will not let it happen because of the benefits of cannabis and potential loss of profits yet sativex produced by big pharma is on the cards for legal prescription. In other pay for tablets instead of a free plant in you garden

I’m lucky to have many friends. Three of my friends smoke pot. I have great time for them but I’m sad to say that they suffer from depression. I’m not a scientist but from my experience, smoking pot doesn’t help

  I’d agree smoking weed while suffering depression is a bad idea. But I don’t think it causes it.
  At least not from what I’ve seen.

  It was proven years ago that cannabis does not cause depression. However these tests did conclude that anyone suffering from depression that did smoke cannabis reported psychotic reactions, even suicide. My advice to your friends, give it up!!
