Woman knocked down by articulated truck in Thurles

The pedestrian who was in her mid-50s was walking on Slievenamon Road in the town.

A WOMAN IN her mid-50s was knocked down by an articulated truck as she walked on Slievenamon Road in Thurles this morning.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and her body removed to MidWestern Regional Hospital.

A post mortem examination will take place at the Limerick hospital shortly.

The road has been closed for forensic examinations and local diversions are in place. Witnesses to the incident, which happened just before noon, are asked to contact local gardaí at the station on 0504 25100.

Since 1 January, nine people have died on Irish roads, including two pedestrians.
