how does a HOAX report drag it through mud… the only people that look bad here are the people who planned the hoax warning… I really don’t understand the overreaction here!

Tullamore’s ‘Good’ name has already been destroyed by the Cowens, even people continuing to vote for them after Biffo’s stunt as Taoiseach baffles the mind!!!

To be fair Paddy, Tullamore’s name is not being dragged through the dirt. Four towns were named as being victims of a hoax bomb threat. It looks like somebody (from ANYWHERE) has made a concerted effort to upset people in these towns. But for some reason, a lot of Tullamore people are taking offence.
As for ‘Inishcrone’ being dragged through the mud – Inishcrone isn’t even the correct name, but tell that to the map makers and the people who keep changing town names in this country without consulting the locals. Of course that’s another story…

My apologies RickJames you are indeed correct about the location of the nightclub in question. I put Prospect Hill into Google maps and it showed up as being miles away from there. It was only when I looked up the location of the nightclub itself that I saw where you were talking about. My bad.

It sounds like the place is full of pyscho’s who will get in your face if you say anything bad about Tullamore.

Genuine question, what’s in Tullamore for tourists?

Charleville castle, tullamore dew museum, lough boora parkland and slieveblooms is located nearby. The grand canal runs right through the town. Its a good base for tourist that might be interested to visit Birr which is a lovely heritage town. Kilbeggan races are also only 15 mins away.

Tullamore was one of the locations named by Garda when I spoke to them today. The names of specific nightclubs involved are not being publicised.

I wouldn’t say anyone was led into thinking there its anything sensational about the nightlife in tullamore, Brendan.

David – you seem to say it didn’t happen and then suggest a reason why it would happen. If it was the latter than people should know. BTW there are viable devices found in Dublin every other week. Nobody including our politicians and lawmakers seem to think that this epidemic is an issue.

Rocco, in fairness no-one is trying to “drag down” Tullamore. I’m simply repeating the information that has been released by the Gardaí.
If the incident reflects badly on anyone, it would surely be on whoever is responsible for the hoax.

Well maybe the story should be changed. Just because the guards say it doesn’t make it true. It wouldn’t be the first time they messed up. I know the people who own the only nightclub in Tullamore and a call to them confirms there was no evacuation or scare.

I don’t want to have to do the journals job for them, but I suggest you double check your sources. Not naming the place when there is only one nightclub doesn’t exactly make it hard to figure out where you are talking about.

What did the Guards in Tullamore say? I bet they weren’t too pleased about this whole thing.

Actually Brendan, I have been speaking with Tullamore Garda Station. They won’t comment on the issue until tomorrow and, therefore, I have to accept that the (twice confirmed) information released by the Gardaí’s central press office is the official police line. If they change this information then I will change the story.

Jaysus Jen you would be better off deleting this article, loads of people in tullamore seem to be hiding something.

No comment by the Guards essentially means that something happened but for their own reasons they don’t want to talk about it.

Brendan, don’t know why you’re so adamant that this story is incorrect but if you think there are any inaccuracies, perhaps you should give the information you appear to have to the Guards

If the journal ran with a more sinister story re: an actual bomb vs. a hoax you may have some basis for your bull comments… even if it turns out that tullamore wasn’t one if the locations it still has zero impact…

Brendan, Garda? have confirmed there was no incident and this was a hoax. Also maybe nightspot might be a better description than night club for the location where the hoax bomb was reported.

Four nightclubs evacuated after bomb scares

Gardaí are investigating after four nightclubs in different parts of the country had to be evacuated last night, following hoax bomb warnings.

Gardaí were informed of suspect devices in nightclubs in Claremorris in Co Mayo, in Tullamore in Co Offaly, in Ballinsloe in Co Galway and in Galway City at around 11pm last night.

However, each incident was a hoax and customers were allowed back into each of the nightclubs at around 1am.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

She just explained that it was given to her by the Garda?. So maybe you should check your facts or get on to the Garda? and tell them they are wrong.

As I said, I received the information from the Gardaí originally. I’ve double-checked it with them in case of an error and they have confirmed that Tullamore is one of the locations involved.
(Perhaps it was a “late bar” rather than a nightclub – the differences between the two can be fairly slim.)

100% agree with brendan here, there’s only one night club in Tullamore at the moment, There are a couple of late bars. It makes a difference cause anyone from the area (because of your article) thinks there was a bomb scare in palace night club, which by the way brendan is commenting says the incident happened elsewhere

@Paddy look back at the comments by the journalist, she rang the tullamore gardai. They said it was a nightclub. Bar her driving up to tullamore to look for the hoax bomb surely she should be able to take their word for it?
