A FOUR-YEAR-OLD boy died tragically in Donegal yesterday after a six -foot steel door fell on him.
Gardaí in the area have described the incident as a “tragic accident”.
The boy was playing in a yard beside his home in Donegal Town when a six-foot steel door fell on him around 5.30pm yesterday evening, BBC News reports.
The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out at Letterkenny General Hospital.
The boy was named locally as Daniel Cleary from Drumbar near Donegal Town, reports the Irish Times.
He has one younger brother and lived with his parents Keith and Patricia Cleary. The father, who runs a haulage and plant hire business near the home, is said to have been abroad at the time.
The Belfast Telegraph reports that one neighbour described how Daniel’s mother was “frantically trying to save the lad” and that a local football tournament was cancelled last night as a mark of respect.
