Poll: Was the GRA right to call off the Garda strike?

The GRA last night voted to defer today’s strike action by the slimmest of margins.

LAST NIGHT’S DECISION on the part of the Garda Representative Association (GRA) to defer its planned strike action for today came at the very last minute.

Recommendations from the Labour Court will now be put the membership of both the GRA and the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (AGSI).

However, the vote on the part of the GRA’s executive committee which led to the suspension of the mooted strike was carried by just three votes, 20 to 17, suggesting that the association itself is not entirely of one mind as to whether or not it made the correct decision.

But what do you think? Would it have made more sense for the GRA to strike given over five weeks’ notice was given to the government of the prospect of industrial action?

We’re asking: Did the GRA make the correct decision in calling off the garda strike?
