Poll: Do we need more CCTV cameras in public places?

Fine Gael TD James Geoghegan is to introduce a bill that will remove barriers to installing more CCTV cameras around Dublin.

A FINE GAEL TD is set to introduce a bill aimed at removing some barriers to the installation of CCTV cameras in Dublin.

James Geoghegan TD said the bill would make it easier for councils to install cameras in areas with a “high prevalence of crime and repeated crime”.

Geoghegan has said that it is “far too difficult to install CCTV” and that there should be designated “Crime Prevention Zones” that would allow for garda-operated CCTV.

The Irish Council for Civil Liberties has in the past expressed concerns about the expansion of CCTV, saying that it exposes vulnerable people to the risk that their data will be captured and shared.

So tell us, Do you think we need more CCTV cameras in public places?
