One man arrested and search ongoing for another after armed robbery in Mullingar

A man in his 40s was arrested after a car crashed into a wall a short time later.

GARDAÍ ARE SEARCHING for a man after an armed robbery in Mullingar where staff in a supermarket were threatened and cash was stolen.

At around 9.30 last night, two men armed with a hammer and a bar went into a supermarket at Ardleigh, Mullingar.

A man in his 40s was arrested after a car crashed into a wall a short time later. The silver Renault Megane crashed into a wall at Ballinderry and two men were seen running from the car.

Gardaí responding to the incident arrested one man close to where the car was crashed and a quantity of cash was recovered.

The man in his 40s is being held at Mullingar Garda Station and a search is continuing for a second man.
