Gay Byrne out of presidential campaign, before he even got in

Gay Byrne has said that he doesn’t feel the time is right for him to take part in the presidential campaign.

GAY BYRNE HAS announced that he’s definitely not going to be a candidate in the forthcoming presidential election.

RTÉ reports that the veteran broadcaster has told Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin that he’s not going to run.

Byrne has also told RTÉ that he doesn’t feel the time is right, for him or  for the people of Ireland.

Earlier it was reported that he wouldn’t be making a statement until the middle of next week, although people close to him said he had already made his decision.

This week Gay Byrne topped a Red C poll of potential and declared candidates.
