Got his week of limelight less we forget he is still alive… Just feck off and retire and stop trying to resurrect what was, in fairness, a good innings.

He thought his workload was too much in RTE so he retires. He was never going to run. It was just a big ego trip for the old man. Glad he won’t run. Having said that I’m not sure there is a good candidate in the lot of them.

I’m not a Gaybo fan and find him patronising and annoying a lot of the time but he didn’t invite the suggestion of his potential candidacy in the first place to be fair. Undoubtedly he must have enjoyed the fact that that he was the popular choice and all of the attention that it brought him during this time, but who wouldn’t. Gay spent a lifetime in a profession where popularity and ratings were everything. I genuinely believe that he actually must have considered running to some extent and that it was more than just an ego trip. Gay’s professional and personal reputation remain in tact and the public view of him may not have been the same after a bruising campaign. As sure as night follows day the dirt would have been dug; it is the nature of the beast. At 77 years of age it would have been utter madness to embark on such a campaign unless his heart burned for it; and it didn’t. No disrespect to Gay but this whole episode speaks much about the public view that there is indeed a dearth of any inspiring candidate in this race. Many would argue that presidency of this country is now in fact a superficial issue.

Pity – I would have enjoyed the dirty tricks results.

Don’t mention Bono’s name…not even as a joke…God next it’ll be President Bono or Bob…If I had the fare I’d emigrate :)

By stringing everyone along, he has devalued the Presidency. Always seeking publicity, he probably realised that the election would finally have shown that he is not as popular as he would like to think he is!

Good man, now go on back to your day job and tend the roses in your spare time in the meantime let the people get on with electing on of the other numpties who are left in the race (assuming there is anyone worth voting for by the time of the election that is) Step forward a real candidate please, there has to be someone out there who could make a good president?
